Hema S/S16 Press Day Amsterdam

Thursday, 25 February 2016

Last week I was invited and fortunate enough to travel to Amsterdam for Hema's press day showcasing all the newness landing in stores. Hema offers reasonably priced goods & services such as; homeware, beauty, clothing, food, photo printing services & much more. When I say they are reasonably priced I really mean it, I bought a pack of pencils from this store for about 79p quite recently which is cheaper than our own £ shops!

In this post I'm going to talk about the actual press day in terms of what Hema has to offer, including photos and a little review of products (mainly food haha) that I have tried and tested. Enjoy the post and don't forget to comment if you've purchased from Hema before :)

Homeware

Garden

The garden range at Hema this year is full of colour and character set to spruce up any garden or balcony. From LED lights, to plant pots and my favourite of them all picnic accessories, we really are spoilt for choice this upcoming season! Lemonade anyone?

View the current garden range here

Clothing

From Children's clothing, to swimwear, lingerie and lounge wear Hema have it all going on (literally). The company offer an extensive range of baby wear at again very reasonable prices, if I remember correctly the baby shoes pictured below are about £9/10. Apart from the images pictured below from the babies wear colelction, Hema also sell baby ski suits (which are the cutest things ever) ideal for keeping the little one warm in the current weather state here in the UK.

Moving on to lingerie... Just look at these beauties pictured below. When I saw the lace triangle bra (pictured below) I instantly fell in love as this style of bra is my absolute favourite. Hema go up to a size E in bras and a size L in padded sports bras which I think is fantastic. The choice of colour, designs and fits are great too and again very reasonable. Shop lingerie here

Beauty

I love popping into Hema for necessities such as cotton pads, stationery etc but have never  tried any of their beauty products. I was pleasantly surprised that Hema have their own style of Tangle Teezers, makeup (that is really pigmented) and the largest selection of nail colours I had ever seen :O! Something Hema are really pushing in the run up to Summer is their 'Hello mirror guess my age' oil (pretty cool name right?). Enriched with vitamins F, this facial oil is said to freshen the appearance of skin giving it a healthy glow in time for Summer.

Easter

So Easter is nearing and let me tell you something, Hema are making big moves with their decorations, chocolates, cooking appliances, and dine wear. One thing I'd never seen before were Easter crackers, similar to Christmas crackers which I think is such an awesome idea! Celebrating Easter is kind of a big deal too!

Hema had several bowls of chocolate laid out for visitors to try and guess what flavours they were. One flavour that stuck with me was the blueberry flavoured chocolate which I had never tried before, was very tasty indeed!

Throughout the day Hema kept us nourished with lots of food to include the tastiest sandwiches, smoothies, cake and other sweet treats!

Make sure you visit the Hema website where you can find more homeware, swimwear for your upcoming holidays stationery, menswear & much more. In London you can find Hema upstairs in Victoria Station.

I'd like to just thank Lewis & the Hema team for their hospitality upon this trip!

New Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara Review - Zeena Xena

Thursday, 11 February 2016

So if you know me and this blog you'd probably realise that I don't really feature singular products on here unless I reallllly love them or maybe even hate them. On this occasion, The new Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara is most definitely a product I love. I won't keep you long with a lengthy review but you can see just exactly how good this mascara is below!

So Maybelline launched this new mascara a couple of weeks back with the gorgeous Gigi Hadid fronting the campaign, I was fortunate enough to attend the launch managing to scoop one of these bad boys up. The mascara features Maybelline's first push up brush which aims to curve and lengthen thanks to it's patented cup-shaped bristles.

These bristles are able to retain the maximum amount of formula put on to the brush really managing to lift and scoop your eye lashes, giving you that perfect falsies look! The formula is rich and creamy but not too thick so you'll never have to worry about clumping or spending too much time trying to volumise. What I love about this mascara is you can go for a really natural look or spend a little extra time really trying to achieve that falsies look.

Here's some photos of me using the mascara. Recently I've been getting people asking "what false lashes are you wearing" haha - which is always a good thing especially if you aren't wearing any. For an extra glam look I may also use this mascara with one of my higher end mascaras that feature a thicker brush.

You can purchase this mascara from Boots here currently £5.99 from £7.99 (Checked Feb 2016)

Have you tried this mascara? Leave your thoughts below!

Shit Companies Say & Do - Zeena Xena

Friday, 5 February 2016 London, UK

Hey guys!

So last year I did a post titled 'Shit Bloggers Say' and within that I promised I'd bring you a second post relating to the shit companies say & do! I promise this one will be 10x funnier, may make you cringe, however the intent is to educate brands on blogger etiquette and to show bloggers how much their worth - never let anyone undermine you!

Over the last few years I've had companies really take the piss in terms of working with me and my blog, my community too believe or not. Even some of the leading brands out there use bloggers for exposure yet when you ask for a favour in return all of a sudden they've gone MIA - hey this is a point already! Again as I mentioned to my readers in my last post, if this post offends you I guess you've ended up in the wrong place - this blog isn't for you!

Anyway let's get started...

1. "Hey zeenaxena.com we enjoy reading your blog" - Stop right there. Firstly, the company in question didn't even stop to take a look at my profile on the right hand side of my blog to figure out my name, (literally takes no time at all), secondly what is it that these brands love about my blog seen as they don't mention anything in specific? I'm afraid these sort of emails end up in zi SPAM folder!

2. "Hey Zaineb we love your blog and would love for you to enter our competition" - You know where I'm heading with this right? When companies want you to write posts on them (including links & images) for you to be entered into a draw for potentially winning whatever it is they're offering. No disrespect to companies who have contacted me personally with this sort of offer but I have been blogging for a long time now, I know my worth!

3. "We'd love for you to review our products and recommend any bloggers you feel who'd love to do the same" - Now looking at this innocently, it's cute right? A brand wanting you to review some of their products and potentially offering some of your closest blogger friends the same deal. Looking at this from a business perspective however, why the heck am I doing a job you're getting paid for? I mean I can but I'd need to be paid a fee for that, mate.

4. When an international brand contacts you wanting you to feature the products and cover shipping costs... HAHAH just no.

5. When companies don't want to pay you for 1) Taking pictures of their products or reviewing a service (ex: a restaurant.. travel charges etc) 2) Writing 500-1000 words on their product/service 3) Pushing the content via social media constantly 4) Generally making sure they're happy via email communication. Companies out there if you're reading this, kindly take note of how much time and effort us bloggers put into our craft... It's not easy especially if you're doing it consistently.

6. When you work hard on a post, #ootds in particular and don't get featured on any of the brands social medias. This doesn't annoy me personally (as I understand there's a process to getting featured), but I do also get why bloggers complain about this literally every week. Some brands do definitely favour popular bloggers over many others and will literally post any of their photos ex: a dusty mirror pic over some bloggers pictures taken in Kensington for example. This seems like an ongoing battle :/

7. When a company plans a meeting with you, ya'll have the meeting and discuss all these amazing ideas only for the company to go quiet after a while. This is one of the things that REALLY annoy me, I honestly hate even putting any energy into things that don't fall through later on.

8. When you finish an assignment for a company and they don't pay you on the scheduled date... Not only is this annoying but when you communicate with them and they're like no we'll pay you the next week... And basically you just give up on ever being paid... Yeah that.

9. When your favourite PR girl leaves a brand you've been working with for a while and you have to deal with the stuck up (I won't say it) that has taken her place. Ohhh why does this happen? Why do all the amazing people leave? This is how brand > blogger relationships are ruined! I know you gals have to move up in the world... But we prefer to deal with you!

10. & Finally the funniest to me; When you post an #ootd or beauty post featuring some items from the company you're working with and they select the worst of the uploaded photos on to their social medias! Hahaha this one always kills me.

Make sure you leave a comment below to let me know which of the above made you laugh! Also if you'd like to see more posts like these on my blog, again let me know - I LOVE writing these :)

Bunny Chow Better Breads Menu

Thursday, 4 February 2016

Hey hey hey! Guess who's payed Bunny Chow another visit recently? That's right... me! I was kindly invited by the team at Bunny Chow to try their new Better Breads menu out.

The Bunny Chow concept recently launched their 'better breads' menu in line with those of us that are crazy on calorie counting just after Christmas and as the New Year begins. Many go back to work/study trying to cut out things such as bread where Bunny Chow have come up with the perfect solution to make their loaves healthier. Customers have the choice of the following:

The Matcha Green Tea White Loaf - Which helps to speed up metabolism and will keep you energised throughout the day.

The Charcoal Brioche Loaf - The Charcoal Brioche Loaf helps boost the immune system, gets rid of harmful toxins in the body and cleanses the digestive system. Bunny Chow recommends this brioche for a breakfast bunny.

The Protein Wholemeal Loaf - My personal favourite. This particular loaf lowers blood pressure and enhances brain function, something I feel I need as I lead such a busy life. For those of you heading to the gym this is the perfect 'pick me up' and will have you fully energised again.

Bunny Chow also offers a Gluten Free and a Naked Bunny Loaf which consists of quoina, peas, black beans, spring & pickled onions to act as a substitute for bread... How cool? So now, during lunch/dinner you don't have to feel guilty for indulging in bread as the properties within the above are so good!

My order;

So I opted for the Protein Wholemeal Loaf, filled with Chakalaka Chicken, Spicy Chicken Wings & a Cucumber Mojito. This is literally my go to when I visit Bunny Chow, the Cucumber Mojito was a new addition to my meal and I must say it did not disappoint. I can't wait to go back already! Take a look at an older review here

If you're more interested in visiting Bunny Chow in the AM, they also have a breakfast menu which includes; A Full English, Veggie, and Yogurt Pot Bunnies. Take a look at the full breakfast menu on the Bunny Chow website here - They're open from 9am.
