Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water Review

After a long day outdoors the last thing you want to do is sit at home with a full face of make-up, so what do you do? Take it off of course! As times are getting hard (aka the sun is beaming), you want to make sure you're taking good care of your skin. To be honest, I'd never heard of Micellar water despite it being around since the 90's. Apparently this good stuff was original created for Parisian women who found it difficult to keep skin looking healthy because of the region's harsh water (Conway, 2014 for Marie Claire). Bioderma kicked off the consumer trend by launching their Micellar cleansing water, shortly after, many brands such as Garnier and Simple quickly joined the bandwagon.

On a recent trip to Superdrug, I managed to pick up a bottle of Garnier's Micellar Water in the mini format for around £1.25 (bargain). I was waiting for a friend at Victoria station and figured
a little make-up shopping wouldn't hurt. I'd seen all the adverts and wondered what the heck is this stuff? So bought it, did some research and started using it on a weekly basis.

What is Micellar Cleansing Water? Well in my terms it's the lazy way of cleansing, except it does the job (and pretty well)! The water acts as a magnet that lifts dirt away from the skin without the need to rub make-up off rigorously, just a few drops on a cotton pad does the trick.
Why is it good? Well, firstly there are no harsh chemicals in this product making it super friendly for sensitive skin. It's no rinse formula means you don't actually have to use your tap's water to clean your face. As well as removing make-up, you can use this water to hydrate skin in the morning! I have to be honest with you however, I am a bit OCD when it comes to my skin routine... I even had a skin expert WOW at the amount I do (don't ask haha), so I'm not able to actually stick to the no-rinse technique as my skin just doesn't feel clean enough. This is no slander to Garnier at all, as mentioned when it comes to cleanliness  in general I'm OCD - I mean  If I have a shower without soap (even if there's shower gel) I don't feel clean enough haha.

I love the fact that this formula is soothing as the way I over exfoliate my skin can sometimes mean that I'm left with a not so happy face. I usually use this just after I've washed away my make-up so it can pick up on any missed areas, I find that also when using this I don't have to use any creams as my skin is very hydrated - this technique works for me personally.

You can buy Garnier's full version here which is currently on sale at £3.29 for 400ml (so cheap compared to other brands).

So what do you think? Have you used Micellar water? What are your thoughts on it? I'd love to hear from you!
