L'oreal Studio Line - Hair Gel For Afro Hair

Thursday, 27 November 2014 Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, UK

Seriously guys,
I should be a brand ambassador for L'oreal because their products are ABSOLUTELY amazing and I can't stop reviewing them. From foundation, to hair products you name it, the brand has it all!

Anyway, so as you know.. I've moved from London to Edinburgh (Scotland) for a while and for my type of hair in Scotland its really hard to find products that do the job. I had limited space in my luggage so couldn't bring my huge tub of eco-styler gel (with argan oil) so sadly put some in a teeny jar and left the rest behind. As I am a big fan of high buns and have to use quite a bit of gel to get them perfect, I was quite sad when my gel came to an end (RIP). So, I hopped down to Edinburgh's Princes street and found myself in Superdrug. After spending approximately 7 minutes looking at all types of hair gel (which was very limited) the only gel that seemed most attractive to me was the L'oreal Studio Line Invisi'Hold. The words 24 hours, natural, non sticky, non stiff and extra strength had me at hello. I was sold.. so I took the gel to the counter and prepared to make change, baring in mind that I had been using eco styler gel ever since secondary school.

On to the product itself.
Now people of the world, I was so surprised by how well this gel worked in fact so well that I don't think I'll be using my other gel again. The gel is really light, quite liquidy (the only thing I don't like) and gets the job done. Not only does the gel hold the hair into place but it doesn't leave any white residue behind!!!! This is something that many brands claim but when put to the test, fail miserably.
The brand do not lie when they say that the gel is non sticky/stiff, at the end of the day my hair is easy to comb out again with no flaky business. I added some extra virgin olive oil to the gel simply because my hair is extra dry which you can see from the ends pictured below.

This is what I like to call a birds nest bun, and how my hair looks when I CBA to do anything to it. The roots have some added gel, water and oil whilst the ends have just been left dry for the purpose of this picture.

So do I recommend this gel? Hell yes! I'd say this gel is for ALL hair types. I've definitely learned since moving (by accident) that a change in your routine - including beauty products is not bad at all. At the moment my hair & skin are in a happy place!

You can by L'oreal Studio Line here

(Below is a photo of my hair using the gel).

Before I forget I'm wanting to go on a #NoHeatHairChallenge and if I can get some of you ladies to do it with me for a few weeks/months I'd definitely love to start a campaign.
Comment below if you're with me - no matter what your hair type is!

My Top Tips: How To Get Noticed By Brands

Sunday, 23 November 2014

Hey guys! I thought I'd do a post on a subject that seems to me as an important question in the bloggersphere. 'How to get noticed by brands'. Now, I'm no expert at this and all views are honestly my own but I thought I'd share some tips since I have been doing blogger outreach for a few months and have come across many blogs (sometimes even my own - let's be honest) that could be doing much better. Not only will I give my readers an insight on how to get noticed by brands, prs etc but I also want to make bloggers aware of certain things that may be 'off putting' and speaking from personal experiences, why you may never get that call, email or tweet back!

1) Clean up that blog! So first things first, you want to make sure that you have the fundamentals correct. Simple things like a clear blog layout can really have a major impact on the overall view of your blog, time and/or money well spent on a good layout for me shows the author really takes time and appreciates their craft. You can purchase great layouts from sites like pipdig or even etsy.

2) Who are you blogging for? Now I'm sure that most of us will say that we are blogging for XY and Z reasons but have you done relevant research in the field/s you are blogging in? Do you have a niche? Can your readers say (example): "I'm coming back to this blog next week as I know there will be something on skincare, the products Zaineb used have really helped improve my skin condition". Or are your readers mainly 15/16 year olds about to finish secondary school?
Having a niche is a great way for brands to identify who you are, what you blog about and your readership. This essentially allows brands & prs to match you to other great brands based on your content and following. Having a niche also makes things a lot easier for brands y'know? If they want beauty & you're a beauty blogger they'd head straight to those in their database and pull out those that are suitable for the campaign.

3) Queen of Content! Or you could be a king if you much prefer? Now I'm sure you've heard the '"content is key" line several times (reminds me of being back at school) and really from articles I have read previously people really do make things sounds 'scary'. It's really simple, you want to be able to engage and give your readers a little bit of your personality. How? Just by being you and most importantly writing your own posts! Yes being honest if they are sponsored. There's nothing like being a loyal reader and reading a post that doesn't scream your tone!

4) But first let me take a selfie... Let's be 100% honest, I don't know about you but I absolutely hate coming across blogs with fabulous content and Blackberry 8520 looking photos. I am one of those people that actually look at the photos in a post before reading it in depth  - most of the time the photos are actually the 'call to action'. Now as you know the more you practise the more better you get. My tips would be to definitely invest in a piece of white furniture that is your go to background for taking product pictures IKEA do great chest of draws, dressing tables, table tops etc.You can jazz your furniture up by adding some patterned/colourful paper to the background, petals.. I'm sure you've seen it all. Again I've spoken to clients who really want to work with bloggers but turn them down because their photos are not to the brands taste!

5) Ermmm.. how can I contact you? Seriously some of you are flushing opportunities down the toilet because we cannot locate your details!!! It's really sad because there has been times where I've come across some amazing blogs that I'd perhaps want to collaborate with and I couldn't find their details anywhere on the blog. Lovelies, if you are a person that loves an opportunity it is highly important you have some contact info somewhere on your blog.

Another tip: I think its also a good idea to have a tiny little bio, picture & email address somewhere on the home page of your blog. Actually for me this is important! I work with so many bloggers, often putting out requests which sometimes leaves me with loads of tabs open - basically what I'm saying is you'll make a brands life a whole lot easier LOL!

6) Connect & Engage! Firstly make sure your social medias all link to each other blog to everything.. everything to blog, you get the gist!
One thing I love is meeting new people, whether we're E-meeting or meeting in person I just love seeing new faces. Connecting with other bloggers and brands big or small proves that you are sociable, and engaging with them proves that your not stuck up & 'selective'. I've definitely come across a few bloggers who seem to reply to those on the same 'wavelength' as them, not cool!
Engage stand out from the crowd and offer your opinions in weekly chats you'd be surprised at the amount of TOP brands hanging about in and browsing certain hashtags ;)

Another tip: Use hashtags correctly, include blogger communities like Blogging Gals

7) If you want it go get it! Confidence is SEXY! Okay ignore that... but if there is a campaign and you meet the criteria, go get it gurrrl! If you've seen a PR hosting a fab press event and you'd love to attend their next one let them know, and tell them what you can offer in return of your attendance.
(A great write up, photos of the day etc).

BTW: If you do not hear back from the brand/PR don't let this worry you just keep going!

There's so much more to add to this list but I think I'll leave it as that for now. I hope I have not offended anyone, as stated previously I am simply offering my advice. This all takes time so don't make brands noticing you a priority.

Happy blogging!

Autumn/Winter Trends - Over The Knee Cleated Boots

Friday, 21 November 2014 Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, UK

Hey ya'll!

So can I let you know how obsessed I am with over the knee cleated boots? Well it started last year when I fell in love with a pair from River Island and since then cleated boots have been an obsession of mine. As well as falling head over hills for cleated boots, I have recently fallen in love with over the knee boots.. so imagine my reaction when I saw these bad boys! I mean, I've never seen cleated over the knee boots before so when I spotted this pair in Schuh I was adamant that these babies were going to be mine!
What I adore about these boots is A) They keep you warm during the colder months (and we all know how important it is to keep warm around this time of year) and B) Instead of wearing heels with short dresses you can wear these beauties! Yes they may not be as glam as a pair of sparkly heels but in my opinion they offer the same sort of sassiness guaranteed to have all eyes on you. These have become my special occassion 'go tos' now and I think it will be very hard to find a pair of boots that beat my current obsession.

I've mentioned a similar pair from ebay in a post here but alternatively you can purchase these from Schuh here.

Shame about the scuffs (I walk really fast and trip up a lot haha).

Oxygenetix Review*

Tuesday, 18 November 2014 Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, UK

Hey guys! It's been a while, I hope you are all doing well.
So I was contacted a few weeks back and was asked to do a review on the Oxygenetetix Oxygenating foundation which I had noticed previously at Bloggers Fashion Week.

So Oxygenetix first launched in Beverley Hills (2008) and became very popular at the Sundance Film Festival. The foundation was originally developed for those who had just had cosmetic surgery (such as laser peels) with the aim of helping customers heal and conceal the skin.
For those of us who have not been through any cosmetic procedures, the foundation really does hydrate the skin and provides a full coverage as pictured below. As always I went for a colour that is a few shades darker than my skin tone simply because my neck is a bit darker than my face.
I really like this foundation but found it felt really heavy on my skin and did tend to look a little bit streaky by the end of the night. Having said this, I did not let this stop me! I am always the one to fix a problem so mixed this foundation with my Maybelline Fit Me foundation which I have previously spoken about here, added double the amount of Matte Powder to my face and ended up with one of the most flawless looks! The Oxygenetix foundation gives you that Summer glow although its not the season, which in my opinion is great because I love to look Sunkissed all year round!

This foundation retails at £45 and can be found in a number of beauty clinics and can be purchased directly here
I chose the shade Tawny which I felt was much suited to my skin tone but would perhaps go a shade lighter next time. In my opinion, because of its coverage this would be a foundation that I save for 'special occasions' - compared to my tinted moisturiser or light foundations that I usually use on a daily basis.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Clueless ft Blue Vanilla*

Friday, 14 November 2014 Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, UK

Hello lovelies.. it's been a while hasn't it? I hope you've missed me! Please note - if I'm not showing love to this blog its simply because I'm taking care of Blogging Gals not because I don't care for this one.
So quick update - I've finally moved to Edinburgh (waheyy) it was really time for a change!
Now onto today's post...
Okay so you must know by now that I am a sucker for coordinates. esp ones that channel my inner clueless vibes haha. I was so happy when I received some blogger mail from the lovely people over at Blue Vanilla - unfortunately due to my hectic schedule this week I didn't get to pap some professional pics however managed to snap this pic for zi instagram:

I wore my Portia checkered co-ord with my thigh high cleated heels and seriously had all eyes on me this night! If you love co-ordinates like me, this is perfect for you especially now that the weather is oh so gloomy. This co-ord not only looks great but is guaranteed to keep you warm during nights out (better than any bodycon co-ord could). Another great thing about the Portia Co-ord is that you don't exactly have to pair the two together all the time, you can sass the skirt up with a polo neck and the jumper with a pair of jeans - tadaaaa 3 outfits!

If  you'd like to become my twin you can purchase this exact co-ord from here or if you'd like to browse Blue Vanilla's range you can do so here

Autumn Ebay Favourites

Saturday, 25 October 2014 London, UK

Hello beauties! How are you all? So I'm really excited to do this post because there are so many gorgeous featured pieces from Ebay that are affordable. You'll probably not want me to write much & get straight to the point (haha) but honestly is that even possible in this case? Ok it is.. well everyone has been raving over these Asos boots that have completely sold it for weeks. They are a cross between the very popular cleated heel and over the knee boots trend which make walking and look sassy very easy! This pair from ebay costs only £9.26 compared to the £50 price tag (I have a pair ordered from a popular retailer as ebay don't stock my size). The rest of my favourites include a beige coatigan perfect for layering, a staple handbag and of course fashion bloggers some sunnies to look cool in your  blog posts.

Not only are these great pieces for us ladies, but these are also great gift ideas for this Christmas.
